DIY Patriotic Three Tiered Stand

DIY Patriotic Three Tiered Stand

One of my favorite displays to put up during 4th of July season is this simple three-tiered stand.  It’s absolutely adorable and the best part is that it only takes about twenty minutes to throw together.

All you really need is a two or three-tiered stand, a handful of assorted red, white, and blue patriotic decorations, a little greenery and a few burlap pieces placed to fill the open spaces.  Anyone can do this!

DIY Patriotic Three Tiered Stand – Tutorial

To make this display, first gather all the small seasonal items you have and play around with what looks good in the display. I will tell you where I found mine, and how I put together this patriotic display.

Supplies:

  • Galvanized buckets, small (Hobby Lobby) (2)
  • Metal pinwheel, small (Hobby Lobby) (1)
  • Wood sign, small (Kathy’s Primitives) These would be easy to make and stencil yourself (2)
  • Vintage bottle, small (thrift store) (1)
  • Patriotic Pinwheel Straws (99 Cents Store) (1 package)
  • Miniature wagon (thrift store) (1)
  • American flags (Michael’s) standard 4 x 6 in. parade flags (2)
  • Flag, burlap from Michaels but a 4 x 6 in. would look great too! (1)
  • Red & white striped, wooden, burlap covered, patriotic star (Hobby Lobby) (1)
  • Blue with white with stars, wooden, burlap covered, patriotic star (Hobby Lobby), blue with white stars (1)
  • Single Stem Geranium  (Hobby Lobby)  (4)
  • Burlap Poufs – cut into 2 inch strips, 6 to 8 inches long, folded in half, scrunched at fold and tied with florist wire (1/2 yd. burlap, 48 in. wide) (Hobby Lobby or JoAnns)
  • Boxwood stem (Hobby Lobby) – cut into smaller pieces) (1)
  • Patriotic Figurines (the ones I used in this display are Lori Mitchell figurines and are listed, near the end of this post, but any figurines that you love will do) (5)
  • Note: This is NOT a sponsored post. I just happen to like them.

Directions:

Arrange your items in each tier so they look balanced and cute.  I usually first place the figures and items I want in the front, where they look good, then fill in around them.

Top Level:

On the top row, I placed Gloria and Franklin Freedom so their flags are sticking outward, away from the center.  Between them, you will see the miniature wagon I found at a thrift store, which I just love. In the back, you can see a small, antique looking, metal bucket holding an antique bottle, a small burlap flag and a burlap pouf. Inside the antique bottle, I put as many of the patriotic straw pinwheels as could fit in the bottle opening.  I placed a couple more burlap poufs (one behind the girl, and the other behind the boy), and pieces of cut up box wood clumps in between the gaps to fill in the empty spaces.

I really love these little figurines!  They really add a lot of character to the display, don’t you think?

You can see the bucket with burlap pouf and the small bottle filled with the straw pinwheels in this picture.

Aren’t these straw pinwheels the cutest ever?!

Middle Level:

On the second layer, in the front, I placed the striped, wooden star in the middle, with the Little Patriotic Boy to the left and the pinwheel in the metal bucket to the right of the star.  The small “Old Glory” sign fit in perfectly, right in the front of everything.

In the back, I placed 2 of the single stem geraniums as fillers, along with 2 or 3 burlap poufs and some small boxwood pieces as needed.

This Little Patriotic Boy with his homemade newspaper hat is my favorite figurine! Isn’t he adorable?

I tucked a little bit of excelsior into the pinwheel bucket to soften the inside.

Bottom Level:

On the bottom level, I place the wooden star in the center, Little Betsy Ross to the left, and Aye Aye Adam to the right.  The Freedom Sign was easily tucked into the very front.

In the back, you can see another metal bucket with a couple of flags and a burlap pouf sticking out.  I also tucked in 2 more geranium stems and added a couple more poufs and some boxwood to peek out over the freedom sign.

Little Betsy Ross holding her flag is soooo cute!

This little guy symbolizes my gratitude to my two grandfathers who both served in WWII.  One of them was in a big battle and his ship sank after it was torpedoed.  Thankfully he was rescued and lived to tell about it. I’m so grateful to both of them and for all those who served so we could live in a free country.

This sign is what it is all about. Freedom for all!

I was excited to stumble upon these old-fashioned looking boxes of Cracker Jacks at Big Lots.
